The shoe thing

Unread post by tyen » Mon Dec 15, 2008 2:43 pm

Ok - so I assume you guys heard about the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoe at our president.

In their society this is big event... to throw your show and also to call someone a dog is a big thing.

The irony is deep though:
Whether you agreed with the Iraq War or not is irrelevant to the fact that Bush is hugely responsible for the freedom that Iraqi citizen has...

Or we can go the comical route :):

Fairly sure throwing a shoe at anyone is an insult regardless of what culture you are from. Hell, if someone throws anything at me, I understand that they don't like me.

It's true that he had the freedom to throw his shoe, but that doesn't mean Iraq is any better. Besides, if Bush had responded in a "tyrant-like" way, then it would have been even more effective than a reporter throwing his shoes at him. Bush's response to the situation (including dodging the shoes) was pretty effective.

His response reminds me of the one time that Bush was holding a ceremony to grant several foreign immigrants their US citizenship. Bush was giving the crowd of immigrants the standard speech of how great America is because of its freedoms, when a small crowd of anti-war protesters showed up protesting. Bush just smiled and told the crowd of foreigners basically that, "See, in America you have the right to voice your dissension without fear of being oppressed".

On a WoW-related note, the Iraqi reporter should have switched from Berserker stance to Battle stance and used Overpower.

Yeah, some of the silly things he does makes me wonder, if he didn't polarize the populace, would we love him?

Decision making ability aside (which I should make clear I'm not some anti-Bush bandwagon mother fucker, I still support him if for no other reason than hes our President) I have always liked that he keeps a good sense of humor and is pretty level headed.

This is true... so much to the extent that people that do not like him bag on him for this too... for example how he was calm upon hearing the 9/11 news while reading to the children.
