Re: legendary songs
Well I can't believe Freebird was posted before this but for god's sake this is the defenition of legendary songs in rock history by the most legendary band in rock history.

BTW this is the best rendition I've ever heard too. If your'e a zeppelin fan and you don't have "How the West was Won", you're missing out big time.

lol boozer shelbert and i have been discussing this thread; we decided stairway was too cliche

Re: legendary songs
It is cliche because everyone ripped it off, not the other way around.Corleone wrote:lol boozer shelbert and i have been discussing this thread; we decided stairway was too cliche
Freebird vs Stairway to Heaven is the most important issue of our generation.

I can too. Strawberry Fields Forever, Revolution, Elenour Rigsby, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun, etc.tyen wrote:To each his own.Tre wrote:I kind of agree with you on the other songs, but how is Hey Jude not legendary? It is the most popular song across the globe. People talk remembering what they were doing the first time they heard it. It is the best song by the most legendary band.
I can name ten songs just by the Beatles that I like better than Hey Jude
However, I was trying to be objective and choose based on impact, not personal preference.

Re: legendary songs
"Legendary," to me, means something different than "Classic (Rock)." Perhaps its just semantics. Something by Peter Seeger was at the top of my list, but I couldn't find any originals (Turn, Turn, Turn, was covered by the Byrds, Where have all the flowers gone, etc). This is what I ended up with:

I realize this song isn't a rock song, but to me it is legendary. Flame if you wish.
I think it should be said that to different people, "legendary" is not necessarily limited to 1 genre of music.

Oooh those are some good ones too, Schnookums!
I love Etta James.
I am surprised no one mentioned this guy:

Mr. Chuck Berry
Legendary when you consider the times (1950s)
